team AkzoNobel were the first to enter the 2017-18 edition, keeping alive the incredible Dutch tradition in this race.
team AkzoNobel is a brand-new Dutch ocean racing team led by Netherlands skipper, Simeon Tienpont and backed by leading global paints and coatings company, AkzoNobel.
The team was the first entry in the 2017-18 edition - continuing the remarkable legacy of Dutch teams competing in the race.
Tienpont is a double America’s Cup winner but his love affair with the Volvo Ocean Race began during the 2005-06 edition when he sailed as a rookie as part of the Dutch flagged ABN AMRO TWO.
Now Tienpont is back with his own campaign and aiming to become the first Dutch skipper since the legendary Conny van Rietschoten, - winner in 1977-78 and 1981-82 – to bring the Volvo Ocean Race trophy back to the Netherlands.
With a grand finale in The Hague in June 2018, Dutch fans can get closer to their heroes than ever before and they are sure to be right behind the team AkzoNobel sailors as they race into their home port.
