Spanish team MAPFRE return for a second consecutive edition following a successful debut in 2014-15, which saw them claim podium finishes four times.
Spanish campaign MAPFRE returns for a second consecutive edition, this time with one of Spain’s best sailors, Xabi Fernández, as skipper. In 2014-15, the Spanish team won Leg 4 from Sanya to Auckland and achieved three more podium finishes.
It will be the eighth edition in 12 that Spain has been represented in professional sport’s toughest test of teamwork, and MAPFRE’s crew will be desperate to grab the nation’s first ever win.
Spanish sailing legend Pedro Campos will again oversee the project, as team director. Campos has been involved in every edition of the race since 2005-06, when he led the iconic Movistar project, and the next edition will be his fifth consecutive campaign.
